Katsudonya Zuicho – Tonkatsu in Shibuya

Is 30mins worth the wait?

Last lunch in Tokyo was a relatively unassuming Tonkatsu. There is not much choice — it is either Tonkatsu or Tonkatsu with egg. I got the latter.

Pork was juicy, cripsy and fried in front of you. Egg was fluffy and light. Katsu did not feel oily. Tonkatsu sauce was sharp and savoury and complemented rice really well.

1000 JPY is a steal. The addition of 200 JPY for the egg does not add much to a very comforting and affordable meal in Shibuya. Oddly enough you had to pay 200JPY in cash to order the egg in advance but the food was so delicious that you accepted any weird admin you went through moments ago.

30mins in line was time well spent at about noon of a weekday. Bring a book and time will fly by.

tldr: worth the wait for a flavourful, affordable katsu in an otherwise faily pricy neighborhood.
